| Education Devoted to our youth, Ald. Lyle obtained funding for the first new classrooms to our Ward in more than 39 years, with the Dennen Elementary School addition. A vocal advocate for our schools, she meets with Principals regularly and has made facility improvements and upgrades at each of the Ward's Public Schools. She acquired funding for new campus parks at Ruggles, McDade, Yale and Pirie. She pressed for the creation of Community Schools and programs and now Yale and Tanner have evening programs that benefit students, parents and neighbors. Disatisfied with the number of children traveling out of the Ward to attend 7th & 8th Grade Academic Centers, she had the Board create a new 7th & 8th Grade Academic Center at Harlan High School. |

Meeting with LSC's, donating computers to schools, reading to classrooms, attending Academic programs or speaking at Commencement Programs are some of the ways, the Alderman shows her commitment to the education of our children.
Each year Lyle For Kids hosts the 'Souls of Black Folk' Oratory Contest for all children living in or attending school in the Ward. With the assistance of area businesses she awards the winners, small monetary prizes. More than 500 people come out to watch our amazing children recite. As an additional incentive to to excell in writing, ComEd underwrites an essay contest for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Each student is required to write an essay explaining 'What They Do To Keep Dr. King's Dream Alive.' Believing that we should reward our children for positive performance, Ald. Lyle and Lyle For Kids ends each school year with a Graduates' Reception.
Beautifying Ruggles with Lowes and Fire Department
At the Reception for the awardees and their families, savings bonds are presented to each Valedictorian and Salutatorian from each of the Ward's Public or Parochial Schools. A recent 6th Ward College Graduate speaks to the awardees about the realities of College Life. ComEd is the co-sponsor of this fant
astic event.
