The City of
Our office provides paper signs free of charge that can be used to notify neighbors of a move. These are courtesy signs and as such are non enforceable. The city will not tow or ticket vehicles blocking your moving space if using only these courtesy signs.
Loading and Standing Zone Signs
Loading and Standing Zones Signs are available to assist businesses in making deliveries and fast service calls throughout
To request a Loading or Standing Zone sign fill out the following application and submit it to the 6th Ward Service Office with 2 photographs of the proposed zone in front of your business.
Garage Sale Application
If you are planning a garage or yard sale, you must have a permit. These permits are free but need to be displayed during the sale. Either stop by our office or complete the Garage Sale Application.
Make sure you sign the application and include proof of residency (photocopies are acceptable). Then either mail, fax, or drop off the application with photocopies of your proof of residency to the 6th Ward Public Service Office.
If you are interested in having a Block Party, either download the application or pick one up at our office. In addition to the application you must also submit a petition that demonstrates the majority of the residents of the block are aware of the block party and consent to it taking place. Click here for a sample petition that can be used for this purpose.
Please submit the application, the petition, and a proof of address to our office via fax, mail, or in person at least 1 month before the block party.
Respect you neighbors and please abide by the following guidelines for a block party:
• You are responsible for cleaning up after your party.
• Remind your neighbors that you will be hosting the block party before the date, so they may plan accordingly, especially in regards to parking.
• Remember to keep your noise to a minimum and comply with the City Noise Ordinance.
• The city does not provide barricades for block parties
Jumping Jacks
The Mayors Office on Special Events provides a limited number of Jumping Jacks or inflatable moonwalks to residents to use for block parties. Jumping jacks are distributed on a first serve basis and will be available for use between May 26th - Sept. 4th. Our office will carry a limited amount of applications that will be mailed to the Mayors Office of Special Events for approval. The City's streets, alleys, sidewalks and parkways are considered to be public rights of way. In order to occupy space on, under or over the public way, you must obtain a public way permit. Applications for use of the public way must be approved by the City Council.

Below are a few of our most requested permits:
Sidewalk Café Permits
If your business would like to serve food outside their restaurant or on city sidewalks, you must apply for a Sidewalk Cafe Permit. An application for a Sidewalk Cafe Permit can be found here.
The form must be submitted to our office for approval with certificate of insurance, two copies of pictures of the proposed sidewalk cafe location and layout plan.

Canopies and Awnings
This program issues permits for use of the public way by companies and individuals wishing to extend canopies or awnings out from the property line over the public right of way.
Applications must include a sketch of the canopy/awning showing the dimensions, size and type materials used. The application must be approved by our office for any canopy/awning extend over the public way in the 6th Ward.
